SEDAR Disclaimer Contact Us Home Corporate Operations Investor Relations Technologies Careers Drilling Fluids Proprietary Drilling Fluid Systems Expanded Coverage and Expertise Client Base Oil Sands Activity SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) is an extraction process which is used primarily in oil sands development and heavy oil operations and requires specialized drilling fluid solutions. The SAGD process typically involves drilling pairs of horizontal wells into oil sands or heavy oil reservoirs. The upper well injects steam into the deposit in order to heat the bitumen or heavy oil to improve its ability to flow. The oil then drains into the production well and is pumped to the surface. As SAGD usage grows, SAGD will be a source of increasing revenues for oil and gas service companies having expertise in this area. CES provides drilling fluid systems to SAGD operations, primarily in northeast Alberta. CES has provided drilling fluid systems to more than 280 SAGD wells to date.
